Street Thief; 2006  3.5/5
If you watch enough documentaries, the spin starts to get nauseating. Not just the Michael Moore, “carefully crafted through omission” type of spin, but the This American Life, “every single story pulses with a moral/lesson that ripples out and touches us all” type of spin, too. You can see it coming. It’s kind of needy and off putting, like a mohawk or juicy couture.
Street Thief is a knuckle ball. It’s unpredictable merely for it’s lack of spin.  The film follows professional burglar Kaspar Carr as he demonstrates his trade for the camera. The refreshing thing is — that’s all this movie is about. He doesn’t wax philosophical about the nature of ownership or who the real criminals of society are. He shows you how he steals shit. That’s pretty much it.  Whether or not you like this movie rests squarely on whether or not that is interesting to you.
When I was watching “Human Weapon,” I wanted to go get into a fight. When I was reading “Born to Run,” I wanted to run a marathon. When I was watching Street Thief, I want to go rip off a supermercado.  What that means exactly, I’m not sure. Maybe imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Maybe disecting it too much further would negate the angle on this review. Watch Street Thief and decide for yourself. (currently instant watch on netflix)

#### SPOILER ALERT #### I know this is not a real documentary. I don’t think that negates anything in the review, though.
